Sean Apple represents technology companies in intellectual property matters, including patent, copyright, and trade secret litigation.  His clients operate across a broad range of industries including software, artificial intelligence, machine learning, video games, AdTech, robotics, and digital media.  

Sean partners with his clients to develop a deep understanding of their technology to inform case strategy and drive results.  Recently, his analysis and legal guidance contributed to a favorable jury verdict in a copyright trial, the invalidation of three software patents as being directed to ineligible subject matter, a complete defense victory in a trade secrets trial, and a successful motion to compel individual arbitration in a putative class action.

Sean’s experience spans all aspects of litigation, including fact and expert discovery, motion practice, claim construction, trial, and appeal.  Sean is also a patent attorney licensed to practice before the USPTO and has successfully prosecuted patents involving a wide variety of technologies. He is versed in multiple widely used computer programming languages.

Prior to joining Tyz Law Group, Sean was an intellectual property attorney at Baker Botts LLP, where he practiced intellectual property litigation and patent prosecution.

Sean holds a J.D. from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly University of California, Hastings College of the Law). Prior to law school, Sean earned a B.S. in Applied and Computational Mathematical Sciences with an Engineering and Physical Sciences Option at the University of Washington. Sean worked as a research assistant at the Department of Earth and Space Sciences at the University of Washington, where he studied the near-infrared spectrum of the Saturn satellite Phoebe using data from the Visual and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer on the Cassini orbiter.  He also worked with spatial data and digital mapping applications as a visual data specialist at Google.
