AI Engineer – Legal AI Tool Development (Remote)

Tyz Law Group PC, a boutique intellectual property litigation and counseling law firm, is looking to hire a responsive self-starter to build its custom AI tool. This is a contract-based role and is expected to be full-time in the short term, with the possibility of turning into a long-term, part-time maintenance and support role. Milestone-based additional compensation will be negotiated.

The Role
As our AI Engineer, you will work closely with the COO, attorneys, and staff to architect, build, and maintain a custom AI system tailored to the needs of the legal team.
Build a bespoke AI tool or suite of tools for the firm using technologies such as NLP, LLMs (e.g., GPT), and legal-specific datasets.
Fine-tune large language models on proprietary legal data to support secure, context-aware outputs.
Develop user-friendly interfaces or integrate the AI system into existing tools such as Microsoft Word, DMS, or legal research platforms.
Ensure compliance with privacy, confidentiality, and data security standards required in legal practice.
Implement feedback loops and performance monitoring systems to continuously improve model outputs.
Develop and maintain documentation and training materials to support internal adoption.
Stay current on trends and advancements in legal AI, machine learning, and legal tech.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
Proven experience building and deploying AI/ML applications in natural language processing.
Proficiency in Python and building in Azure.
Familiarity with large language models (e.g., GPT-4, Claude, Mistral), prompt engineering, and fine-tuning techniques.
Knowledge of vector databases, RAG (retrieval-augmented generation), and embedding techniques.
Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Preferred Experience
Prior work building AI tools in a regulated industry (law, finance, healthcare).
Understanding of legal data structures (e.g., contracts, pleadings, case law) and the specific demands of working with privileged and sensitive information.
Experience with legal-specific tools or APIs (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis, DISCO)
Experience working with legal teams or on legal technology products.
